Top 10 countries with the highest internet costs in 2025: In today’s highly connected world, the internet has become essential, with an estimated 5.56 billion users globally — a 2.4 per cent rise from 5.43 billion in 2024, according to Statista. However, the price people pay for connectivity differs widely across countries. A new report by We Are Social analysed the cost of fixed broadband internet per megabit per second (Mbps) across more than 60 countries in 2025, revealing striking contrasts. Leading the list, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has the world’s most expensive internet, with an average cost of $4.31 per Mbps. The UAE is nearly twice as expensive as Ghana, which ranks second at $2.58 per Mbps. Other countries with high broadband costs include Switzerland, Kenya, and Morocco, each averaging around $1 per Mbps. In contrast, Eastern European nations like Romania ($0.01), Russia ($0.02), and Poland ($0.03) offer some of the cheapest broadband services in the world. Western economies such as France, Japan, and the United States (ranked 39th) also fall below the global average of $0.24 per Mbps. Asian countries such as Vietnam, China, and South Korea provide fast and affordable internet, with rates as low as $0.05 per Mbps. However, not all Asian nations enjoy low-cost connectivity. Pakistan, with an average price of $0.53 per Mbps, ranks 10th among countries with the most expensive internet in 2025. Indonesia ($0.41), Hong Kong ($0.39), and Bangladesh ($0.36) also appear in the top 15.
