Top 10 central bankers rated A+ and A in 2024: India’s Shaktikanta Das, the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has been ranked with an A+ grade.

They act as the “lender of last resort,” providing necessary funds to commercial banks during periods of financial distress to prevent systemic failures while maintaining price stability.
Led by their central bank governors—key figures responsible for shaping monetary policy, ensuring financial stability, and effectively communicating with the public—central banks play a crucial role in influencing overall economic performance.

Shaktikanta Das, the current Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), transitioned to this crucial role after serving in significant positions within the Finance Ministry.
A retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the 1980 batch, Das was the Economic Affairs Secretary from 2015 to 2017 during former finance minister Late Arun Jaitley’s tenure.

Das also contributed as a member of the 15th Finance Commission served as India’s Sherpa to the G20 for a year, and assumed office as RBI Governor in December 2018, succeeding Urjit Patel, with an initial appointment period of three years.
He holds a Master’s degree in History from Delhi University and has furthered his education with a Financial Management course from IIM-Bangalore, along with mid-career training at IIM-Ahmedabad.
