Amazon Music launches Maestro, a Spotify-like AI powered playlist generator

Similar to Spotify's AI playlists, Amazon Music is also getting a new AI powered playlist generator called 'Maestro'. However, it is currently in beta and only available to a handful of users.

Earlier this month, Spotify unveiled a new AI-powered music playlist generator for Premium users. Now, Amazon Music has announced a similar feature that uses AI to “make it easier and way more fun to build playlists you want, when you want.”

Dubbed ‘Maestro’, the AI-powered playlist generator lets you create a playlist using prompts and even works with emojis, activities and sounds. The AI-generated playlist can also be saved if you want to listen later and share it with others.

With AI prone to hallucinations, Amazon notes that “the technology behind Maestro is new and won’t always get it right the first time.” The company also says it has implemented safeguards like blocking inappropriate prompts and offensive language.

It is currently in beta with Amazon saying it is rolling out to a handful of users in the United States. Maestro is currently available for Free, Prime and Unlimited Amazon Music subscribers on both Android and iOS.

Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers can listen to their playlists and save them in an instant, while Prime members and those on the ad-supported tier are allowed to listen to 30-second previews of their playlists before they can save them. It looks like Amazon plans to bring the new feature to more users sometime later.

How to use Maestro to generate playlists on Amazon Music?

1. To use the functionality, download the latest version of Amazon Music on your device.

2. If you are eligible for Maestro, the functionality will appear either on the home screen or access it by tapping the ‘+’ sign that appears when creating a new playlist.

3. Once done, tell Maestro about your playlist idea either by talking or typing and tapping the ‘Let’s go!’ button to start playing music.

In the last few months, Amazon has been slowly incorporating AI-powered features in various products. Earlier this year, the company introduced a new tool called Rufus on its e-commerce website which it claims makes “online shopping easier and more intuitive for customers.”
