Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday announced a couple of new updates for groups, giving admins more control over their group privacy and making it easier for users to see which groups they have in common with each other.
WhatsApp late last year announced Communities, helping connect multiple groups together under one umbrella to organise group conversations. Since communities are large and may include hundreds of members, WhatsApp is now allowing group admins greater control over who joins groups.
When an admin chooses to share their group’s invite link or make a group joinable in a community, they’ll now see a list of people who wish to join. A Pending participants list with allow and reject buttons will allow admins to pick members they wish to add as they see fit.
WhatsApp is also making it easier to know which groups a user has in common with someone. This will be helpful for “when you’re trying to remember the name of a group you know you share with someone or you want to see the groups you’re both in.”
To see what groups you share with a contact, simply search their name on WhatsApp.
Both features will start rolling out globally “over the coming weeks.”
