Truecaller, the free-to-use caller ID service used by millions worldwide, will soon work as intended on iPhones. The app has been available on Apple devices for a while now, but the integration is not as efficient as that on Android smartphones.

For those wondering, the Truecaller app on iOS devices misses out on real-time caller ID, and users had to manually open the app and look up the number to see who’s calling them.

However, this might change soon as Apple iOS 18 now allows users to use its new API to show an overlay on the call screen. Apple recently updated the iOS 18 feature release documentation, according to which, “new APIs allow developers like Truecaller to fetch information from their servers and provide live caller ID for incoming calls, in a privacy preserving way.”

Truecaller CEO Alan Mamedi recently made an X post to share news and said that “even though it has worked fairly OK in the last 2 years, this time it will be just like you would expect Truecaller work, end to end.”

The company’s co-founder Nami Zarringhalam also made an X post to say, “It’s been 9 years of grinding, and some amount of loss of faith in between at times. But soon everyone will be able to experience a smartphone the way we always knew they could, safe and trustworthy.”

Earlier this year, Truecaller introduced a web client that allows users to search for unknown numbers and get real-time call alert notifications. The company has already boarded the AI hype train and rolled out a new tool that helps detect and block spam.
