Tecno enters folding smartphone segment, launches Phantom V Fold in India

Tecno showcased its first folding smartphone, the Phantom V Fold, a few weeks back at MWC 2023. Now, the company has finally launched it in India. Currently, the Tecno Phantom V Fold is one of the most affordable full-screen folding smartphones in the country and carries a retail price tag of Rs 88,888. However, the phone will be available at a discounted price of Rs 77,777 as part of an early bird offer on Amazon.

The overall form factor of the Phantom V Fold is similar to that of other folding phones. It has a 7.85-inch primary folding display featuring a 2K+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate with LTPO technology (10Hz to 120Hz). The phone also has a secondary 6.45-inch curved cover display on the outside with FHD+ resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate.

The phone comes in black and white colour options, and the back panel is made of 100% renewable fiber made from organic material using plastic waste. The device has a triple camera setup at the back with a 50MP wide-angle camera, 50MP telephoto lens, and a 13MP ultra-wide angle camera. There is also a 32MP selfie camera on the inside screen and a 16MP selfie camera on the cover display.

The smartphone is powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 9000+ SoC with 12GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The device has dual SIM card slots with support for a 5G network, and it also supports Wi-Fi 6. In terms of software, the phone ships with Android 13-based HiOS. According to the company, it has optimised over 2000 apps for the primary display, and over 1000 apps also support adapted split-screen mode.

The phone is fueled by a 5,000 mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging. However, there is no wireless charging support. As part of the pre-booking offer, Tecno will include a trolley bag worth Rs 5,000, and it is also including a screen protection plan worth Rs 8,888 (one-time free screen replacement within 6 months). Users can also get Rs 5,000 cashback by using HDB financial services.
