Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 edge were launched by the company at a special event in Barcelona, ahead of the official MWC 2016 start. But the launch had a special guest: Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. So why did Zuckerberg show up at the S7 launch? Well to talk about virtual reality; remember Samsung's Gear VR is powered by Facebook-owned Oculus Rift. Samsung is giving Gear VR headsets free with the new S7, S7 edge for a limited time period. Zuckerberg also shared pictures of the event on his Facebook page and wrote, "I just joined Samsung to launch their new Galaxy smartphones and talk about the future of virtual reality." Watch Video: Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge First Look Video His post goes on to say, "I told the story of when I was 11 years old and first learning to program computers, I used to sit in my middle school math class, write code in my notebook and sketch images of a world where you could not only navigate to a 2D website, but transport yourself to a completely different place in reality. I've been waiting for it to be possible to create this experience, and today it finally is." Zuckerberg confirmed that every pre-order of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will ship with a free Gear VR. The Gear VR costs $99 currently and is priced at Rs 8200 in India. The Facebook CEO also revealed that "people have already watched more than 1 million hours of 360 videos in Gear VR." Zuckerberg's appearance highlights how important VR is for Facebook and the Gear VR is just one of the ways for the company to make mobile VR more popular and mainstream.
