Samsung has unveiled an updated version of its adorable robotic companion, Ballie, at CES 2024. The new Ballie now comes equipped with built-in projector capabilities, allowing it to display videos, photos, and other content on walls, floors, and ceilings as it autonomously rolls around your home.

In a promotional video shown at Samsung’s CES press conference, Ballie demonstrated projecting a bird video to entertain a dog, starting a video call and projecting it on the wall, and displaying a fitness instructor on the ceiling to follow along during a workout. Ballie’s projector can automatically adjust the image based on the distance to the projection surface and ambient lighting conditions, providing an optimised viewing experience.

The integrated projector isn’t Ballie’s only new trick. The autonomous robot can also now control smart home devices like lights, ACs, and appliances. In the video, Ballie turns on the lights, dispenses dog food, and texts its owners. The combination of home automation and projection makes Ballie an entertaining smart home hub on the move.

Ballie first debuted at CES 2020 as a robotic companion that could follow users around the home, recognize faces, come when called, and interface with other smart devices. The addition of the built-in projector and expanded smart home capabilities aims to make Ballie more useful and engaging.

With its expressive demeanour and playful, pet-like behaviours, Ballie looks to form emotional connections with households. Unfortunately, unlike its first appearance in 2020, Ballie was not demonstrated live on stage at CES 2024. The updated robot was only shown in the promo video. Pricing and availability details for the new Ballie remain unannounced.
