Qualcomm recently announced a new mid-range SoC – the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. Built on 4nm process node, the new chip can reach peak speeds of 2.4GHz and supports Quick Charge 4+, which the company claims can charge a device from 0 to 50 per cent in just five minutes.

The octacore SoC has 4 cores that can reach speeds of up to 2.4GHz whereas the other 4 power efficient cores are clocked at 1.95GHz. While the company is yet to share details about the GPU, the new SoC supports FHD+ resolution, refresh rate up to 144Hz and comes with Variable Rate Shading.

As for the camera, the SoC gets Qualcomm’s Spectra 12-bit ISP and the ability to record video in 4K HDR at 30fps. It also supports capturing images from 3 cameras at once and an AI De-Noising algorithm trained using a neural network to remove noise in low-light pictures and 200MP camera sensors.

The Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 might be a viable alternative for phone manufacturers who don’t want to go with the Snapdragon 8 series SoCs. But despite having the ‘s’ suffix, the new chipset may offer less performance than the company’s own Snapdragon 7 Gen 2.

Xiaomi recently confirmed on the Chinese social media platform Weibo that the new mid-range SoC will make its debut on the upcoming Redmi Note 13 Pro. The smartphone manufacturer also shared some camera samples from the phone, which features Samsung’s 200MP ISOCELL HP3 Discovery Edition sensor, which is expected to launch in China on September 21.
