After days of rumours and speculations, it is finally happening. Google has officially announced its Pixel Fold device and it will be unveiled at the upcoming Google I/O 2023 event on May 10. While the search giant has not revealed any details about the device, it has shared a short teaser. The video shows a full-size outer display that opens much like other foldable devices from Samsung and Oppo. Interestingly, the camera island on the rear panel bears a resemblance to those spotted on other Pixel devices. Only, it does not protrude as much as the older camera modules. The device also evokes a sense of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold. Earlier reports claimed that the Pixel Fold is going to be a 5.8-inch device that folds outwards into a 7.6-inch tablet. The device is speculated to include the Google Tensor G2 Processor. Some reports also claimed that the device will have the most durable hinge ever on a foldable phone. It is rumoured to be priced around $ 1,700 (about Rs 1,38,845). When it comes to the design, the Pixel Fold has retained the same visual language as the Pixel line of devices. So far, there is no internal camera and this could mean that Google may be either skipping the camera or introducing an under-display camera. More details on the camera will be known later. The front-facing screen is considerably large with a visible crease on the inside screen. The teaser shows Android’s Material UI design interface. We also spotted the power and volume rockers on the metal edge. The device was expected to be launched sometime in 2022, however, it got delayed. Regardless, there has been a constant stream of rumours about the specs and features of the device in the last few months. The tech behemoth has been actively working towards making its presence felt in the foldable segment which is currently dominated by Samsung. Reportedly, Google has been working closely with the South Korean smartphone maker to create an Android version best suited for the foldable form factor.
