OnePlus is making a comeback into the smartwatch game with the upcoming launch of the OnePlus Watch 2 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on February 26.
The company says it went back to the drawing board after listening to user feedback on the original OnePlus Watch. Battery life was a major focus – the Watch 2 promises 100 hours on a single charge when in “Smart Mode.”
But battery life isn’t the only area getting an upgrade. OnePlus is touting a premium design with a stainless steel body and sapphire crystal display that should be very scratch-resistant. It takes inspiration from the curves of the OnePlus 12 phone series with a circular watch face.
The Watch 2 will come in two fancy colors: Black Steel and Radiant Steel. OnePlus is positioning this as a true flagship smartwatch that embodies “understated luxury.”
This watch launch continues OnePlus’s push into building a complete ecosystem of premium devices. In 2023 they released the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 earbuds and OnePlus Pad tablet. They ended by launching the OnePlus Open foldable phone. And they kicked off 2024 with the flagship OnePlus 12 series.
The OnePlus Watch 2 was previously tipped to feature a 1.43-inch AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipset, and is expected to run WearOS 3 or WearOS 4. This is a major jump over the original OnePlus Watch that ran a proprietary operating system.
“After a three-year hiatus and a reflective pause following the OnePlus Watch 1, the Watch 2 re-emerged, and we are more confident than ever about this product. This confidence is not unfounded, it’s built on a foundation of substantial advancements in our technological ecosystem and capabilities. Watch 2 indicates our determination to transform from “Flagship Killer” to “Ecosystem builder”. It will provide you with experience that’s not just improved, but transformed.” Said Kinder Liu, the COO and President of OnePlus.
