OnePlus, the Chinese tech giant known for its flagship killer smartphones, is finally entering the foldable phone market with its OnePlus Open. The company has confirmed that the OnePlus Open will be launched globally on October 19, and interested customers can pre-book the device from the official website to avail benefits and offers.

The OnePlus Open is expected to be a premium device with a high-end processor, a large battery, and a dual-display design. The company is yet to confirm the specs of the phone, but there have been numerous leaks and rumours that have painted a pretty good picture of what to expect. Let’s take a look.

What’s under the hood?

The OnePlus Open is likely to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, which is Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset that offers improved performance, efficiency, and connectivity. The OnePlus Open may also come with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage, which would make it one of the most powerful foldable phones in the market.

For photography, the OnePlus Open is expected to have a 48MP primary + 48MP ultrawide + 64MP periscope lens setup at the rear. And 32MP + 20MP upfront.

What’s the battery like?

The OnePlus Open is rumoured to have a 4,800mAh battery that supports 67W fast charging. This means that the device could be fully charged in less than an hour, which is impressive for a foldable phone. The OnePlus Open may also support wireless charging and reverse wireless charging, which would allow it to charge other devices wirelessly.

Top-of-the-line display tech likely

The OnePlus Open will have a dual-display design, with a 7.8-inch 2K AMOLED display on the inside, and a 6.31-inch AMOLED display on the front. Both displays are likely to have a 120Hz refresh rate, which would offer a smooth and fluid user experience. The OnePlus Open may also have an in-display fingerprint scanner and a punch-hole selfie camera on both displays.

Why OnePlus Open matters

The OnePlus Open is almost like a statement that the brand can compete with the likes of Samsung, Huawei, and Motorola, who have currently dominated the foldable phone segment. The phone could also undercut other foldable phones a bit, as OnePlus is known for its aggressive pricing strategy. The rumoured price is Rs 1,39,999.
