NVIDIA recently replaced its more than a decade-old GeForce Experience and Control Panel app with a new modern-looking app called ‘NVIDIA’, claiming that it is 50 per cent more responsive than its predecessor.

However, a few days after gamers transitioned to the new NVIDIA app, many started complaining about performance drops and stutters in some games. As it turns out, NVIDIA has confirmed that a bug with its app is causing the issue. “We are aware of a reported performance issue related to Game Filters and are actively looking into it,” NVIDIA said on its official support forum.

The tech giant added that in the meantime, gamers who have installed the NVIDIA app should turn off the Game Filters from NVIDIA app Settings> Features>Overlay>Game Filters and Photo Mode and relaunch their game to fix the performance issues.

According to a recent report by Toms Hardware, the game filters are indeed the root cause of the recent performance issues, and the problem also seems to be affecting users who aren’t actively using filters at all. The publication also noted that the performance drop amounted to around 15 per cent in some games, but after disabling the NVIDIA app overlay, some titles had more FPS while others had little to negligible performance impact.

After testing multiple titles, it was found that using the default settings for the NVIDIA app dropped the overall performance by around 6 per cent at 1080p and 2.5 per cent at 1440p (2K). However, the performance degradation varied from one game to another.

If you don’t use the NVIDIA app, you can also uninstall it and choose to only install the latest drivers. Unfortunately, NVIDIA is yet to share a timeline for the fix, so you may have to disable Game Filters and Photo Mode to get some more frame rates.
