Nothing, the London-based hardware startup best known for its phones and earbuds, is foraying into the budget-friendly segment with a new sub-brand. The sub-brand, called CMF by Nothing, aims to make better design more accessible to a wider group of consumers.

The announcement was made by Nothing CEO Carl Pei in a public address, through the Nothing Q2 Community Update. He added that the sub-brand will be “a new range of products that makes better design more accessible to a wider group of consumers.”

Two products will be launched later this year via the new brand: new earbuds and a smartwatch. He did not reveal any details about the specifications, features, or prices of these products though.

From what it looks like, CMF is an effort by Nothing to bridge the gap between the value segment and high-quality products. Pei also said that CMF by Nothing will share the same vision and values as Nothing, but will have its own identity and style.

A few months ago, we saw a glimpse of some earbuds shaped like nuts from a brand called “Particles by XO.” Many speculated that this was a new venture by Nothing. But it seems that the name has evolved over time, and now they have settled on CMF by Nothing.

Nothing is a relatively new player in the tech industry, having launched its first product, the Nothing Ear 1 earbuds, in July 2021. The earbuds received positive reviews for their transparent design, sound quality, and battery life. The company has kept that design language consistent with it the earbuds’ sequel, and more recently, the Nothing Phone 2.
