On Wednesday, during Meta Connect 2024, CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced the company’s latest VR headset — Quest 3S, a toned-down version of Quest 3. Priced at $300, which is $200 cheaper than the Quest 3. It is available with 128/256 GB of internal storage.
The 128 GB variant of the Meta Quest 3S costs $299.99, while the 256 GB variant of the headset is priced at $399.99. With every Quest 3S, Meta is including a free copy of the Batman: Arkham Shadow video game and three months of Meta Quest+ subscription. For now, there is no information on the pricing and availability of the Meta Quest 3S in India.
Despite its lower price tag, Mark Zuckerberg reiterates that the “Quest 3S has the same defining features as the Quest 3,” and it is powered by the same Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip combined with 8 GB of RAM along with support for vivid passthrough, hand tracking, and there is also controller support for precision input.
The Meta Quest 3S offers 1832 x 1920 pixels per eye along with a 96-degree by 90-degree field-of-view with 20 pixels per degree and a higher pixel density of 773 pixels per inch, and the Quest 3S is also compatible with Zenni MR Prescription Lenses.
It runs on Horizon OS with support for gaming, social media, fitness, and video streaming on major platforms like YouTube, Prime Video, Netflix, and more. It is also getting a new feature called YouTube Co-watching, which enables two Meta Quest 3S users to stream the same video at the same time for an immersive experience. Equipped with a 4,324 mAh battery, on a single charge, the Quest 3S can offer 2.5 hours of average run time.
With future updates, Quest 3S will gain features like travel mode, similar to one on the Apple Vision Pro along with an improved Meta AI experience, including the ability to revoke Meta AI with the phrase “Hey Meta.”
