HTC officially launches VR app store, Viveport: Offers $1 sales

HTC’s Vive VR headset has launched its own PC app store called Viveport; and to celebrate, it’s kicked off a sale that drops the price of select software to just $1. The app is now available so as people in over 30 countries will be able to join the virtual reality experience.

During the first 48 hours of the launch, users will be able to buy titles like Mars Odyssey, theBlue, The Music Room and Firebird, among a select others at a special price of $1. Viveport is designed to offer a wide range of experiences across categories like design, art, music, sports, education, and more.

“Viveport features immersive experiences across additional categories where you can explore new worlds, create things, connect with friends and experience stories in new, immersive ways,” the Vive team said in a blog post.

Viveport app has been live in China since April this year, and the team has added more than a dozen VR titles since. As part of the release, the team is introducing Viveport Premieres (titles launching first on Viveport). Some of these titles include Google Spotlight Stories’ Pearl, Everest VR, Stonehenge VR, Lifeliqe, The Music Room and more.

HTC says that Viveport will empower developers and content creators to drive long-term monetisation and engagement. Viveport will feature pay-to-download, in-app-purchases, subscriptions, and more revenue generating opportunities. HTC Vive and Oculus VR are the only two major VR devices currently available in the market. Vive is HTC’s VR headset based on Valve’s Steam gaming platform.
