Google to discontinue these Nest products from April 2024: Here’s what you need to know

In its blog, Google said that over the years it has launched numerous products and features to enhance security for its users. However, the tech behemoth has stated that it was becoming increasingly challenging to continue to update the products.

“As we look at what it takes to support your needs going forward, it is increasingly challenging to continue to update these products given the early hardware and newer, better options available,” read the blog post.

From April 8, 2024, users will no longer be able to access Nest Secure through the App. However, till then users can still use the existing features. Google is encouraging users to switch to another system before it discontinues the services.

Besides, to assist with the smooth transition, Google is also offering $200 to current users to use on the Google Store to avail of an exclusive offer on Self Setup System from ADT. Google invested some $450 million in the security firm ADT three years ago. It was only recently that the two companies started offering integrated security solutions.

Meanwhile, Dropcam which is Google Nest’s video streaming camera that works on WiFi was launched in 2013. The company has said that the upkeep of Dropcam’s hardware was challenging hence it will stop support. Until the above-mentioned date, users will be able to operate the Dropcam. Google has also advised users to download the video history before April 8 next year to retain their data.

In the same blog, Nest Aware subscribers will be given a new indoor Nest Cam for free, and the other users will be able to avail of a 50 per cent on Nest Cam. The Works with Nest which offers access to third-party products will also be discontinued.
