Google is expanding its AI-backed photo editing features on its Photos app to more users starting May 15, which were limited to Pixel smartphone users and Google One subscribers. All Google Photos users will soon be able to use features like Magic Editor, Photo Unblur, and Portrait Light for free to Android, iOS, and web users but with a condition.
Do note that free Google Photos users will only be able to get 10 Magic Edit saves in a month, and users need to buy a Google One subscription to remove this limitation. This feature was first introduced with the launch of the Google Pixel 8 (review) series of smartphones back in 2023.
However, some of these features might not be available on older Android smartphones with a 32-bit processor, and smartphones should also have at least 3 GB RAM and should be running on Android 8 Oreo or a newer version. This should not be an issue unless one has a phone that is over four or five years old, as every Android and iOS device launched over the last few years is powered by a 64-bit processor.
The same also applies to iPhones and iPads, where the AI photo editing features will not be available on iPhones with a 32-bit chip, and a device (iPhone or iPad) should have at least 3 GB RAM with iOS 15 or a newer version.
The photo unblur feature can clean up a blurred photo, while the Magic Editor can remove unwanted objects from the image, and lastly, the Portrait Light effect can adjust the light to fix the brightness in the images.
Brands like Samsung, Oppo, and OnePlus are also introducing their own Magic Editor-like tools, again, which are available free of cost. In the coming days, more AI photo editing tools will be made available for more devices.
