Google Messages comes pre-installed on most Android devices. (Image Source: Google)Google Messages may be getting a new feature that shows the name of the person who contacted you in notifications. The upcoming functionality was recently spotted in the beta version of Google Messages.
First spotted by Android Authority during an APK teardown, which helps shed light on upcoming features, it looks like the latest version of Google Messages contains a change to the notification you get on your phone whenever a new message from an unknown number arrives.

However, to see the name of the other person, they need to have profile discovery enabled. To enable Profile Sharing, open the Google Messages app, tap on your profile picture from the top right corner and head over to ‘Messages settings’.
Now, find and tap on ‘Advanced’, click on “Profile discovery” and enable the toggle named “Profile Sharing”. However, the feature is currently limited to those on the latest beta version of Google Messages and there is no timeline for when Google plans to roll it out on the stable channel. Also, it should be noted that features spotted during an APK teardown sometimes do not make it to the stable version of the app and may take a while before it is available to everyone.
Google Messages developers often add and experiment with new features. Last month, Google was testing a new pop-up for its Messages app that warns users about potential security risks if they click on a link from a number that is not in their contact list.
