Google on Thursday announced that it is renaming its Bard chatbot to Gemini and launching a dedicated mobile app on Android and iOS. The company is also releasing Gemini Ultra 1.0, the largest and most capable version of Google’s large language models.

Starting today, Gemini will be available in over 150 countries and territories in English. Gemini Advanced will come as part of the Google One AI Premium Plan for $19.99 a month, starting with a free two-month trial.

The search engine giant says the chatbot is available in 40 languages. The version with Ultra will be called Gemini Advanced, which is designed to be more capable of reasoning, following instructions, coding and collaborating creatively. The company claims it can be a personal tutor that can be tailored to your learning style.

Gemini Advanced with Ultra 1.0 is the “most preferred chatbot compared to leading alternatives in blind evaluations with third-party raters,” said the company in a press statement. It is designed to allow users to have longer, more detailed conversations and to even understand contexts from previous prompts.

Using Gemini on the phone should allow you to type, talk or add an image for AI assistance when you are on the go. For example, you could take a picture of a flat tyre and ask for instructions or create a custom image for dinner party invitations.

If you download the Gemini app on Android or opt-in on Google Assistant, you will be able to access it from the app or any other way you normally activate the assistant, like hitting the power button or corner swiping on some phones. There will be a new overlay that offers easier access to the Google chatbot that can provide contextual help right there on the screen.

“For years, we’ve been investing deeply in AI as the single best way to improve Search and all of our products. We’re excited by the progress, for example, with our Search Generative Experience, or SGE, which you can try in Search Labs. AI is also now central to two businesses that have grown rapidly in recent years: our Cloud and Workspace services and our popular subscription service Google One, which is just about to cross 100 million subscribers,” wrote Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, in a company blog post.
