Adobe today released the results of its study on the career motivations and workplace expectations of Generation Z, or Gen Z workers. It surveyed over 1,000 early career Gen Z employees working at medium to large-sized companies in India to find out more about their perspectives, behaviour and what they expect

The study focused on their views on emerging technologies, career development, company values, and corporate social responsibility. Here are some of the findings.

Gen Z and Gen AI

The study found that Gen Z is excited to use generative AI at their workplace with 91 per cent of the respondents saying they are prepared for their employer to adopt the technology in everyday work. 7 out of 10 participants added that their organisations have put together guidelines on generative AI use. Irrespective of whether that is the case, 81 per cent of the respondents admitted to having tried to use the technology to help with their work.

Gen Z is not shy to speak up

It seems that Gen Z is not coy about sharing their opinion at the workplace with 96 per cent saying they were comfortable about providing feedback to their peers and colleagues. 86 per cent said they are comfortable giving upward feedback to managers and supervisors.

They also don’t lack in ambition. Either. An overwhelming majority, around 93 per cent, said they are looking to grow. And this is not only in terms of the “impact” they have but also about going up the corporate ladder. Interestingly, 87 per cent said they felt good about their career growth opportunities at their company but 46 per cent of them selected no clear path to promotion as one of the top reasons they would leave a job.

Gen Z wants mentorship, more

91 per cent of the respondents said they believe a workplace mentor is crucial for their career but 76 per cent reported having a mentor at work. 45 per cent said they wanted more training on hard skills related to their jobs when asked about what they wanted to see more of in their workplace.
