Fujifilm has launched a new mid-range mirrorless camera. Called the Fujifilm X-S20, this compact and lightweight offering succeeds 2020’s X-S10 model, bringing along a number of improvements such as a notably larger battery. The X-S20 sports a 26.1MP back-illuminated sensor and a high-speed image processing engine that delivers crisp images with low noise and high dynamic range. The camera also boasts subject-detection autofocus powered by artificial intelligence technology, which can recognize and track various subjects such as animals, birds, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, aeroplanes, trains, insects, and drones. This is enabled by the X-Processor 5, which Fuji claims is twice as fast as its predecessor. Arun Babu, Head of Digital Camera, Instax, and Optical Devices Business, Fujifilm India, told indianexpress.com that Fujifilm cameras are popular among amateurs for their design and functionality. “With the X-S20, we are targeting mostly vloggers and content creators because of its improved video functions. It has a flip-out screen, 4K recording, fast autofocus and other features that make it ideal for creating engaging content,” he stated. Compared to the 2020 model, the X-S20 is marginally thicker and around 30 grams heavier but can now shoot up to 800 frames on a full charge, which is twice the X-S10’s number. The X-S20 also has a significant improvement in video quality. It can record 4K video at 60fps, while the X-S10 can only do 30fps. The X-S20 has a dedicated video mode on the mode dial, a tally light on the front, and a headphone jack on the side. It can also record at a peak resolution of 6.2K at 30fps. Fujifilm is renowned for its colour-grading technology that it has refined over almost 90 years. The X-S20 also comes with 19 Film Simulation modes to add an artistic flair to photos, including the new Nostalgic Neg mode, which creates a high saturation and soft tonality effect. An in-body image stabilisation mechanism is present as well to help reduce camera shake and enable handheld shooting in low-light conditions. You can get the Fujifilm X-S20 body for Rs 118,999 or choose from two lens bundles. The price climbs up to Rs 129,999 with the XC 15-45mm lens, while the XF 18-55mm lens bundle goes for Rs 149,999. Mirrorless cameras are different from DSLR cameras in that they do not have a mirror mechanism that reflects light into an optical viewfinder. Instead, they use an electronic viewfinder or an LCD screen to display the image. This makes them smaller, lighter, and quieter than DSLR cameras.
