The user base of X in Brazil ranges from 20 to 40 million users. De Moraes ordered the shutdown after a monthslong dispute with Musk over free speech, far-right accounts and misinformation. In the verdict, Justice De Moraes wrote, “The resumption of (X)’s activities on national territory was conditioned, solely, on full compliance with Brazilian laws and absolute observance of the Judiciary’s decisions, out of respect for national sovereignty.” X welcomed the decision and said that it is proud to return to Brazil after being banned for around 40 days. In a statement posted by X on its Global Government Affairs account, the company said “Giving tens of millions of Brazilians access to our indispensable platform was paramount throughout this entire process. We will continue to defend freedom of speech, within the boundaries of the law, everywhere we operate.” According to a statement by Brazil's attorney general’s office, it told the country’s Supreme Court on Tuesday that it doesn’t see any reason why social media platform X should not be reinstated.
