Apple is holding a press event in its headquarters in Cupertino, California, on September 12, where the company is expected to announce new iPhones. The Apple logo on the invitation is in grey, blue and black, which could be a hint to the colour options. The star of the show will be the iPhone 15 series, especially the high-end iPhone 15 Pro Max. Cupertino is planning to launch other new products as well. Here’s what to expect from Apple’s “Wonderlust” event.
Apple has sent out a special invite to select media and analysts to join the event in person. Similarly, others can catch the keynote from the company’s official website. The possible iPhone 15 launch event on September 12 will commence at 10:30 PM IST and will also be live-streamed on YouTube. You can watch the “Wonderlust” event online at apple.com or on the Apple TV app.
The star of the presentation will be the new iPhone 15 lineup. Like last year, Apple is expected to announce four models: the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will be the baseline models featuring a 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch display, respectively. Just like their predecessors, these are reported to offer a 60Hz refresh rate. However, this time around, analyst Ross Young predicts that they will also feature Apple’s latest human interface design — Dynamic Island, originally introduced on the iPhone 14 Pro series. In terms of build quality, these devices are likely to remain identical to the iPhone 14 with an aluminum and glass sandwich design.
These models are said to be powered by the A16 Bionic, whereas, the base models are likely to offer 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The dual-camera system is also reported to get some massive upgrades, including a new 48 MP ultra-wide sensor on both variants. This time around, these new iPhones are also expected to be available in new colour options such as light pastel. Lastly, the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus are also said to receive a USB Type-C port. However, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that the data transfer speed will be capped to USB 2.0.
Unlike the iPhone 14 Pro series, where, the difference between the two models was just limited to the screen size and battery capacity, according to Mark Gurman, the new iPhone 15 Pro Max will get some exclusive features, including a periscope zoom lens, a first for an iPhone with either 6x or 10x optical zooming capability to position it as a premium offering. Gurman also suggests that Apple will go for a more premium titanium frame for the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max with slightly rounded off edges. This will not only make these iPhones look more premium but will also help the company to make them lighter yet sturdier when compared to the current pro models with stainless steel frames.
The iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max are reported to be based on Apple’s first 3nm chip, A17 Bionic, and these are also expected to replace the mute switch with an action button, suggest a report from 9to5Mac. According to 9to5 Mac, the new Type-C port on the Pro iPhone 15 models is reported to offer faster USB 3.2 data transfer speeds and up to 33W fast charging, making these the fastest charging iPhones, period.
MagSafe wireless charging is also reported to have some new features. However, right now, there are no concrete reports about the same. All these changes do come at a cost, as a Bloomberg report claims that the price of these Pro iPhones might go up by at least $100.
The iPhone 15 series is likely to go on sale starting September 22. However, due to excess demand, some models could be delayed until October due to supply chain constraints from various vendors. Sony, for instance, has reportedly delayed the shipment of camera lenses.
Apart from the iPhone 15 series, Apple is likely to introduce the Apple Watch Series 9 with a new chip and additional health monitoring capabilities. Gurman reports that the Watch Series 9 is based on the new S9 chip, which is reported to be more power efficient than the S8, and might aid the upcoming watches to deliver enhanced battery life. If you are looking forward to a new affordable SE watch, you might have to wait for another year.
ShrimpApplePro predicts that the Apple Watch Ultra 2 will look similar to the current model, but will be available in a darker shade, again, made out of Titanium.
Additionally, the company could also unveil a second-generation Watch Ultra. Finally, the company is also reported to launch an upgraded AirPods Pro Gen 2 with a USB Type-C charging port, Kuo predicts. The rest of the features of the AirPods Pro are likely to remain identical to the current model.
