Apple Vision Pro, the company’s first ‘spatial computer’, recently received a new update that lets your virtual avatar do more than just float freely during FaceTime calls. The new feature, dubbed ‘spatial Persona’ allows users to interact with others during a FaceTime call, making you feel like they are in the same room as you.
It works by showing users a life-like virtual avatar that they can move around and make eye contact with. Apple says Vision Pro users can also use SharePlay to watch movies, and TV shows, play games or collaborate with others when working. Spatial Personas also supports spatial audio, meaning you can easily keep track of where everyone is in a call.

Currently, spatial Personas are limited to FaceTime calls, but Apple says it is working on making it compatible with games and apps that would make the user feel like others are sitting around in the same space as you. Available on visionOS 1.1 or later, Apple says you will need at least another user with Vision Pro on the call and the feature can be used with up to five participants at once.
To use spatial Persona, initiate a FaceTime call with someone who has an Apple Vision Pro and tap on the spatial Persona option by tapping the person icon in the controls. When you are using the feature, the call controls are available in the Control Center.
Apple says the position Personas change depending on what you are doing in the call. If you are watching a movie, the other person will appear as if they are sitting beside you, but if you are playing a game, they will appear sitting in front of you. However, you can still move around freely.
