Apple OS X El Capitan will be available for download starting today. The new update will be free for all Mac users. The OS X El Capitan is built on the same design first announced with OS X Yosemite with new ways of managing windows, better built-in apps and updated spotlight search. Apple says the new OS also makes it faster to launch apps or switch between apps. “El Capitan refines the Mac experience and improves performance in a lot of little ways that make a very big difference. Feedback from our OS X beta program has been incredibly positive and we think customers are going to love their Macs even more with El Capitan,” said Craig Federeghi, Senior Vice President - Software Engineering, Apple in a press statement. The new OS brings following new refinements: Mission Control: With OS X El Capitan, Mission Control arranges all windows into a single layer with just a single swipe, making it easier to find the window you need. Dragging a window to the top of the screen creates a new Space. Split View feature now automatically positions two apps side-by-side in full screen. Spotlight search: In OS X El Capitan, users can search for stock prices, weather conditions, weather forecasts, sports scores and even information related to a particular athlete is now available from spotlight search. Spotlight now supports natural language search. Spotlight window can be resized to display more results or moved anywhere on the desktop. Built-in apps: Apple's Safari browser now features pinned sites that allows Mac users to keep their favourite websites open and active. Apple has now made it easier to mute any tab that plays sounds with a new mute button. Mail brings new smart suggestions and like iOS, it is now easier to juggle multiple emails while the app is in full screen mode. In Photos app, Mac users can change location, change description in batch or sort albums by date or title. Apple is also supporting third-party editing extensions helping users edit the pictures easily. Notes app: El Capitan also bring a new Notes app that allows users to drag and drop photos, PDFs, videos and other files into a note and then add content directly from other apps. Apple says OS X El Capitan also brings wide array of system improvements. With Metal, core graphics and animation are accelerated to boost system rendering and efficiency by up to 40 percent. El Capitan supports all Mac introduced in 2009 and later including some model introduced in 2007 and 2008.
