Apple has acknowledged overheating issues with the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. The tech giant stated that the new phones’ titanium frame and the redesigned system architecture were not contributing to the problem, as initially speculated. Instead, Apple attributed the overheating to a combination of bugs in iOS 17, issues with certain apps, and a temporary setup period that caused the phones to run hotter than expected.
Apple will be issuing a software update to address users’ complaints regarding the latest iPhone 15 models, assuring that the fix will not affect the iPhone’s performance.
“We have identified a few conditions that can cause the iPhone to run warmer than expected,” Apple said in a statement to indianexpress.com. “The device may feel warmer during the initial days after setup or restoration due to increased background activity. We have also discovered a bug in iOS 17 that is affecting some users and will be addressed in a software update. Another issue involves recent updates to third-party apps, causing them to overload the system. We are collaborating with these app developers on fixes that are currently being rolled out.”

Shortly after Apple released the new iPhone 15 Pro models, many users began complaining on Apple’s forums, Reddit, and social media platforms that the high-end Pro models were heating up more than expected during use. Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst at TF International Securities, suggested that any overheating issues were likely due to “compromises” in the phone’s design as the company aimed to reduce the product’s weight.
Apple clarified that recent updates to certain third-party apps on iOS 17, such as Instagram, Asphalt 9, and Uber, could lead to the devices “running warmer than normal.” The company is working with third-party developers to implement fixes. Consequently, Instagram released an updated version of its app on September 27.
Regarding charging, Apple stated that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max support any USB-C adapter compliant with the USB-C standard, including USB Power Delivery. The company explained that the iPhone regulates its charging to a maximum of 27W and that if users are using a 20W or higher charger, the phone may temporarily get warmer as a result.
Apple’s support page notes that the iPhone may feel warm when initially setting it up, restoring it from a backup, or wirelessly charging it.

The iPhone 15 Pro models feature a frame made from titanium, whereas Apple had previously used stainless steel for its high-end phones. Both new models include significant changes, including a new A17 Pro chip manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process, USB-C connectivity, and a zoom lens.
