The first-generation AirPods and iPhone X, which helped Apple define the next-generation smartphone ecosystem, are now being labelled as vintage products by the brand. Apple’s updated list of vintage products also has the first-generation HomePod.

This means these products––which many users still rely on despite being old––will no longer receive official support from the brand. Apple will no longer repair or service these devices.

The original AirPods, launched with the iPhone 7 series in 2016, revolutionised wireless earbuds and set the standard for smartphone accessories. Many budget earbuds still mimic the first-generation AirPods, highlighting their enduring popularity.

The iPhone X, introduced in 2017 also stands out as a groundbreaking model, featuring a full-screen design with a notch for Face ID and eliminating the home button, marking a significant departure from previous iPhone models.

The HomePod was a significant product for Apple, being the company’s first smart speaker designed to compete with high-end home audio devices.

Other than these, the 5th generation iPad, early 2015 MacBook Air, and the 2nd generation Apple Watch are now considered vintage.

What happens to Apple’s vintage devices?

If you are using any of these devices, they will continue to function as usual. However, if something goes wrong, Apple will not offer any repairs or solutions, even for a fee. You will need to seek third-party services for repair and restoration.
