WhatsApp, the most popular messaging tool of our times, has just pushed the envelope. The WhatsApp web client launched today is an extension of your phone. The web browser “mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device — this means all of your messages still live on your phone”, said a blog post on the WhatsApp blog.
To connect your web browser to your WhatsApp client, simply open https://web.whatsapp.com in your Google Chrome browser and use WhatsApp to scan the QR code. It has been confirmed by several readers that the new web feature is working on Android 4.3, Windows Phone and BlackBerry 10 OS.
How to connect:
1) Open https://web.whatsapp.com in your Google Chrome browser. (Works only on Chrome)
2) Open Whatsapp and go to Menu (which contains options like New Group, New broadcast, Status, etc)
3) Tap on WhatsApp Web
4) Scan the QR Code on Chrome browser
The catch with the service is that since it is mirroring your phone, the device will need to be connected to the net at all times. So don’t think of this as a way to reduce your data bill. Plus, there is no web client for iOS users due to Apple platform limitations.
For the record, WhatsApp has 500 million users worldwide.
