Meta has announced that it is launching a web version of its Threads app. The web app will let users post, like, reshare, and comment on Threads, as well as browse their feed and switch between different tabs. It’s expected to roll out in the next few days, according to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Threads is Meta’s attempt to challenge Elon Musk’s Twitter, which has faced criticism for its moderation policies and algorithmic biases. Threads claims to offer a more democratic and transparent platform for users to express their opinions and interests. The app launched in early July and quickly gained 100 million users, surpassing ChatGPT’s record-breaking debut last year. However, the app is still not available in the European Union due to data protection regulations.

The web version of Threads will not have all the features of the mobile app, though. Users will not be able to edit their profile, send posts to Instagram DMs, or access some advanced settings from the web app. Meta spokesperson Christine Pai said that the web app is meant to offer a basic level of functionality for users who prefer using social media on their desktop browsers.

The launch of the web app comes as Threads faces a decline in user engagement, according to some analytics firms. Meta hopes that the web app will attract more users and keep them active on the platform. The company is also working on improving the search function and adding more categories and topics for users to explore on Threads.
