Remember Notes? Long ago when Facebook had just started, Notes was a fairly popular feature of the social media site. Now Facebook is revamping Notes to make it look more snazzy and the new design looks a lot like Medium, one of the popular new blogging platforms. Medium has been created by Twitter co-founders Evan Williams and Biz Stone.

The new style of ‘Notes’ with a big cover image on top and a wider format were noticed first by developer Dave Winer, who tweeted this link out showing the new style of Note on Facebook. (App users click here to see tweet)

According to a report on The Verge a Facebook spokesperson confirmed that the company is testing “an update to Notes to make it easier for people to create and read longer-form stories on Facebook.”

With Notes, the idea has always been that people would write longer posts and engage with each other. But of-late status updates and even the comments on many of those are quite long, which means a lot of the discussion that would have happened around a Note, is now happening on direct status updates. Facebook has a character limit of  60,000 on a status update.

Facebook has been looking at making publishing and reading more interesting on the site and the first step towards this has been Instant Articles, which would see news publishers post their content directly onto Facebook itself.

Facebook is working with nine launch partners for Instant Articles: The New York Times, National Geographic, BuzzFeed, NBC, The Atlantic,  The Guardian, BBC, Spiegel and Bild.

According to Facebook, Instant Articles will see faster page loads than the current average taken by posts now and it will bring interactive features as well. For instance, users will be able to zoom in and explore high-resolution photos by tilting their phones.
