Facebook’s challenge to Skype, FaceTime: Messenger gets video-calling feature

Facebook said on Monday it added a video-calling feature to its standalone Messenger app.

Facebook said on Monday it added a video-calling feature to its standalone Messenger app. The feature is currently available to users on iOS and Android operating systems, the company said.

The company said users can video call their friends even if one of them is on Apple’s iOS and the other on an Android device. Video calling has been launched in several countries including the United States, UK, Canada and France, the company said.

Facebook said it plans to roll out Businesses on Messenger soon. Earlier at its F8 developers conference that it would open up the app to businesses as well and developers can build features and apps just for the Facebook Messenger.

Facebook had also announced that Messenger will also be adding the ability to display store receipts and shipping information to help consumers keep track of their interactions with merchants and other businesses.
