Xiaomi Mi A2, Mi A2 Lite Launch highlights: Mi A2 India launch on August 8, says company

Xiaomi Mi A2 will come in three variants with the higest version offering 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. The cheapest version will cost Euros 249 for the base 4GB RAM and 32GB storage version, which is nearly Rs 20,000 on conversion. The 4GB RAM and 64GB storage version will cost Euros 279, which is around 22,000 on conversion. Finally, the highest variant of 6GB RAM and 128GB storage will cost Euro 349, which is nearly Rs 28,000 on conversion. Now we will have to wait and see if Xiaomi keeps the prices similar when launches the phone in India, or whether we will get reduced prices here. 

Coming to the smaller Mi A2 Lite will cost Euros 179 for 3GB RAM and 32GB version.  This comes to around Rs 14,000 on conversion. Mi A2 Lite in 4GB+64GB storage will cost Euros 229, which is around Rs 18,000 on conversion.  

While the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite will go on sale in France, Spain and Italy from July and August, it will also come to other countries, a total of 40 to be precise. Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite will come to India as well, though we will have to wait and see when it goes on sale in the market. 

Mi A2 Lite will cost Euros 179 for the 3GB RAM and 32GB version. The Mi A2 Lite in 4GB+64GB storage will cost Euro 229. On conversion to India, the prices come to Rs 14,000 plus and Rs 18,000 plus for the Mi A2 Lite smartphones. 

Mi A2 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor as well. Xiaomi claims this processor still outperforms other mid-range processors. Mi A2 Lite has a 4000 mAh battery on board. 

Mi A2 has a vertical rear camera as well. It comes with a 12MP+5MP camera at the back. This one also has an AI driven Portrait mode. 

Mi A2 Lite will have an Android One branding as well. It will come in Blue, Black and Gold colour option as well. 

Mi A2 Lite is now being showcased. One of the first Android One phones to feature the 19:9 aspect ratio and has a 5.84-inches display.

Mi A2 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor. It comes with the Kryo big-little architecture, and this is an octa-core processor. Xiaomi is claiming an Antutu Benchmark score of 140,000, which is a huge leap over the Mi A1 from last year. Mi A2 will come with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage on board. There will be a 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant as well.

Mi A2 will get Android P quickly, promises Google. Let's hope Xiaomi will be able to fulfil that promise. 

Google Lens will be integrated in the camera app on the Mi A2. It will also run the Google Assistant. Unlimited photos space on Google Photos will also be there. This will also be one of the first devices to get Android P, says Jon Gold. It will also help battery life of the phone with features like Adaptive battery, etc.

Xiaomi claims they are putting in a lot of their own effort for improving Selfies and Portrait mode with AI. Xiaomi has also included AI Bokeh enhancement to the selfie camera's portrait mode. 

Mi A2 selfie camera is also 20MP and comes with a 'soft' Selfie light.  Mi A2's rear camera will also figure out which lens to use for Bokeh depending on the lighting. 

Xiaomi says the Portrait mode on Mi A2 is powered by machine learning. Each pixel is separated into an actual object. The ML allows it to figure out the background from the foreground and thus create a good Bokeh. Once again, Xiaomi is claiming that the Bokeh works well even in low-light. AI portrait mode keeps focus on the important stuff, says the company. 

Xiaomi claims that the Mi A2's low-light performance will be much better than rivals like Galaxy A8. Again we will have to wait for the final review unit to see if this is true. To recap, Mi A2 has a 12MP 20MP rear camera. Looks like the 2X optical zoom feature will not be a part of the Mi A2. 

Xiaomi says the second 20MP sensor has a 'Super Pixel' technology for much brighter photos. Users can turn this feature on in the manual mode of the camera app. 

Mi A2 has a 12MP Sony IMX486 sensor and a 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor. Both have f/1.75 aperture and a larger pixel size. Xiaomi is now comparing Mi A2 with other phones like Samsung Galaxy A8, etc. Xiaomi is promising a better low-light performance with the Mi A2. 

Mi A2 will have a curved design on the back and a metal unibody. It also has a Type-C USB port at the bottom. There is 2.5D Curved Corning Gorilla Glass as well. It will come in three different colours: Gold, blue and black.

Xiaomi claims the Mi A1 from last year was best-seller and among the top ten devices of last year. 

Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite will be launched. Both will be Android One smartphones. 

Xiaomi claims they were fastest-growing internet company in 2017.  Xiaomi also has a new philosophy of not letting profits go beyond 5 per cent, even on hardware products. Xiaomi says they are top 5 in more than 15 different markets. Xiaomi claims they are number four in the market in Europe, number three in Spain.  Xiaomi has also opened a store in Paris. 

Xiaomi says it crossed $15 billion revenue in the year 2017, whic h was a big achievement for them. Xiaomi says it took only 7 years to get to this revenue level, compared to other tech companies. 

Xiaomi's senior VP Wang Xiang is on stage. He's talking about how Xiaomi's IPO on Hong Kong was largest tech IPO since the last four years. The last big tech IPO from China was Alibaba. 

Xiaomi's senior VP Xiang Wang is on stage to show to open the event. He leads Xiaomi's international business. For Xiaomi this is a global event.The company is now expanding more aggressively into Europe. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun is also present at the event.

The Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite launch livestream has begun on YouTube. 

Given the importance of India market for Xiaomi, both the Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite are expected to launch in India soon.  We will have to wait and see if the launch takes place next week for India, or whether Xiaomi will bring these phones to India in the first week of August.

For starters both the Mi A2 and Mi A1 are Android One devices.  So yes, like the previous phone Mi A2 will run stock Android. Once again the camera app could be from Xiaomi. Xiaomi is expected to add Portrait mode to the front camera as well. However, Mi A2 will come with the newer 18:9 aspect ratio display, compared to the 5.5-inches display on Mi A1, which had a 16:9 aspect ratio. 

Mi A2 will come with a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor as well, which will be faster in comparison to the Mi A1's Snapdragon 625 processor. Mi A2 will also come with a vertically stacked rear camera like the Mi A1. However, this time the camera specifications will be 12MP+ 20MP on the Mi A2. Mi A1 had a 12MP+12MP rear camera. Selfie camera on Mi A2 will also be 20MP, according to the leaks. 

The Mi A2 could come with 5.99-inches display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor, 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The battery will be 3010 mAh. The interesting part will be the camera. Xiaomi could introduce a 12MP+20MP rear camera on the phone, like the Mi 6X. However, there could be a telephoto lens on the device, which will be interesting to see, since the Mi 6X did not have such a feature. The front camera will be 20MP. 

Mi A2 Lite will be the budget friendly variant from Xiaomi, which will come with a notch-like design on the front. Leaks indicate the display size will be 5.84-inches with a 19:9 aspect ratio and full HD+ resolution. However, the phone could be powered by the older Snapdragon 625 processor, which is present on many Xiaomi smartphones. Mi A2 Lite will have a 12MP+5MP rear camera setup and a 5MP front camera as well. Battery could be the other highlight of Mi A2 Lite, which will be 4000 mAh in size and bigger than Mi A2. 

Xiaomi's Mi A2 global launch event will start 2.30 pm IST. Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite will be revealed at the time. Xiaomi has a livestream up on its YouTube channel for the same.  

Xiaomi has out several official teasers, that confirm the company will launch two Android One smartphones today. The Lite version will be a lower-end variant of Mi A2 (rebranded version of Mi 6X). The Mi A2 Lite will have a bigger and a notch on top of the display. Xiaomi Mi A1 is expected to come with a 5.99-inch screen size, while Mi A2 Lite will feature a slightly smaller 5.84-inch display. Both the phones will have dual rear cameras.
