Samsung could announce its first foldable smartphone as early as November 7. The mysterious phone, likely to be called the Galaxy F will feature a foldable screen, and offer primary and secondary display views. Now, The Wall Street Journal reports that the South Korean major has been in talks with YouTube and Netflix on ways to deliver the best experience on a foldable screen.

The Galaxy F announcement is expected to take place at Samsung’s upcoming developer conference, which begins on November 7 in San Francisco.  Speculation is rife that the phone will come with a Super AMOLED display, that can be used as a phone after folding, and a tablet on its own. Rumours indicate that the Galaxy F could feature a 7.29-inch primary display, in tablet mode, and a 4.58-inch secondary screen for smartphone-like use.

With regard to the phone’s design, a MySmartPrice report has indicated that the South Korean electronics firm could source Galaxy F’s hinge from KH Vatec. The design of the hinge is expected to ensure that the displays do not break after being realigned. The Galaxy F will be thicker on folding, given the presence of two screens, that is also expected to be a consideration during the device’s performance. The phone’s battery specifications, along with its software features, remain unknown.

Samsung had created the hype around this phone with a video released in 2013, that showcased the possibility of a smartphone with a foldable display. This was reignited after reports of a new Samsung phone, that could fold ‘like a wallet’, were floated in July. Galaxy F, though, will not be the first phone of this kind, as Chinese startup Royole has already launched FlexPai, with also features a foldable display. In the coming months, Huawei too plans to introduce a foldable smartphone in the market.
