Mumbai police arrest differently-abled man for rape committed in 2009
The victim, who is also differently abled, claimed that the accused raped her and other women by spiking their soft drinks.

The Mumbai police recently arrested a 45-year-old differently-abled person for an alleged rape committed in 2009.
The victim, 34, who is also a differently-abled person, alleged that the accused sexually assaulted her 16 years ago after a friend of hers took her to his place. The victim has claimed that the accused mixed sedative pills in her soft drink and then raped her.
According to the police, the victim, who is now married, learnt through her friends that the accused had sexually assaulted several girls by similarly spiking their soft drinks.
The incident came to light last week when the victim informed her husband about the assault, and the latter approached an NGO. A case was subsequently filed at a Mumbai police station under Section 376 (rape) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
A police officer, who is part of the probe, said, “The accused was arrested on December 14, and we hired a certified translator who helped in the interrogation.”
“The victim and the accused used to live in the same vicinity. The victim has alleged that the accused also misbehaved with other girls, but no one else has come forward to testify. We have been verifying the facts and looking for the woman who brought the victim to the accused’s place in 2009,” the officer added.
The accused was sent to judicial custody on December 18. He has denied all charges.
