It’s just been a couple of days since Apple’s iPhone 16 series went on sale, and there are already leaks and rumours about the iPhone 17 series that will launch later next year. According to Ross Young, the CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, the base iPhone 17 models are most likely to gain a 120Hz LTPO panel, just like their Pro counterparts.

The iPhone 17 series might look a tad different from the current iPhone 16 series, where Apple is considering replacing the Plus model with a new iPhone 17 Air, touted to be among the thinnest iPhones that Apple has ever made.

The report also highlights that the new LTPO panels on the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Air will be manufactured by BOE, a Chinese display manufacturing company, which has been supplying screens for brands like OnePlus. This could enable a variable refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz, which could also help improve battery life.

Right now, there isn’t much information on whether the iPhone 17 series will go for a bigger screen, similar to the iPhone 16 Pro series.

Besides this, the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max could also get some big display upgrades. This may include an under-display Face ID setup for a more premium look, and an all-screen display sans the Dynamic Island, with just a centred punch hole for the selfie camera, similar to high-end Android smartphones like the Galaxy S24.
