Google has confirmed that it is working on a fix for the Pixel 3 XL speaker distortion issue, Android Police reported. The issue, first detected by Reddit and Twitter users, pertains to the phone’s speakers which emit static noise even at low volumes. While many believed that this was a hardware issue, Google has confirmed that a software update will eliminate the issue on Pixel 3 XL.

According to user testimonies, the noise can only be observed during notification sound alerts, while playing videos, or answering calls. Some have also claimed that the nature of distortion varies in respect to the surface the phone’s glass back panel is in contact.

Reddit user u/qtpa2tnh said that the issue persisted even after replacing the Pixel 3 XL handset, and claimed that the effect was prominent in frequencies of low-range and mid-range, in between 20-500Hz.

This follows a previous bug that created a second ‘virtual’ notch over the right side of Pixel 3 XL’s display. The Pixel 3 has also faced many issues in the recent past, including multiple reports of the phone overheating, and then shutting down. Users have spotted heating problems in various modes of the Pixel 3, including wireless charging of the phone vis Google’s Pixel Stand.
