Apple's big September 2021 event is over, where four new iPhones, a brand new Apple Watch and two iPads have been announced. The iPhone 13 series will come in four variants just like the iPhone 12; the regular iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini will start at 128GB storage this time, with Apple ditching the 64GB option, and the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max will get a 1TB option as well.
The Pro options will get a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate. The new series runs the latest A15 processor and comes with improved cameras and new colour options. The iPhone 13 series has a new pink colour for the iPhone 13, 13 mini, while the Pro variants have a new gold and a Sierra Blue.
Apple Watch Series 7 with its bigger, flatter display is also official and the big screen means more information for users. Apple also launched two new iPads at the event: The iPad mini and iPad 2021 with improved front cameras.
The iPad mini is a lot more powerful now. It supports 5G and has a USB-C port at the bottom. More importantly, the display is bigger at 8.3-inches and gets TouchID. But there is no FaceID. And it runs the A15 Bionic chipset which is powering the new iPhone 13 series as well. Read our detailed FAQ on the iPad mini here.

Whenever a new iPhone comes, the older versions get a price cut and some are phased out. Apple has stopped selling the iPhone 12 Pro series now, given the 13 Pro is replacing them and has the same starting price.
But the iPhone 13 vs the iPhone 12 is a really interesting price comparison to watch. First, the iPhone 13 costs Rs 79,900 for the 128GB version. The iPhone 12 when it launched at the same price last year had 64GB base storage. The iPhone 12 is still listed on the Apple website but has got a massive price cut. It is now starting at a price of Rs 59,900 for 64GB, Rs 64,900 for the 128GB and Rs 74,900 for the 256GB.
The iPhone 11 is also still listed on the Apple site for the price of Rs 49,900. Earlier the price was listed as Rs 59,900. But iPhone 11 now comes in only two variants: 64GB for Rs 49,900 and 128GB for Rs 54,900.
So this time, Apple has kept the starting price of the iPhone 13 the same as last year, which is Rs 79,900. But keep in mind that the iPhone 13 now starts with 128GB storage, which is double the base variant of the iPhone 12. So technically, the iPhone 13 is more value for money. Same with the iPhone 13 mini, which starts at Rs 69,900 for the 128GB version, just like the iPhone 12 mini, which had 64GB as base storage.
One new feature that Apple is touting is ACinematic Mode, which will be available across the entire iPhone series. This relies on machine learning algorithms to automate the focus shift while one is shooting video. For instance, if the subject in focus looks away, the camera will automatically shift focus to the other subject on the screen. To know more about the iPhone 13 series and its features, read our detailed FAQ here.
Interestingly, the iPhone 13 series will come to India in the first wave itself. It is the first time this has happened. So while the per-booking starts on September 17, the sales will launch exactly a week later on September 27. Also, the prices are the same as last time despite the base storage now being 128GB and not 64GB. The iPhone 13 Mini has a starting price of Rs 69,900 and iPhone 13 Rs 79,900, exactly the same as last year.
Apple has also kept the prices for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini the same as last year at Rs 79,900 and 69,900 respectively. Storage has doubled now to 128GB for the base option. Sales from September 24, pre-orders from September 17.
Apple has confirmed prices for the Pro series. The iPhone 13 Pro will start at Rs 1,19,900 and iPhone 13 Pro Max for Rs 1,29,900 which is the same as last year. The 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max started at these same prices. The phones will be up for pre-orders from September 17, sales from September 24, including in India.
It looks like Apple is not announcing any price for the Apple Watch Series 7 in India. The company has only revealed that the watch will be available later this year. Previous reports have said that there was a delay in production due to the new display on the Apple Watch Series 7, and this could be a reason, though Apple has not yet confirmed anything.
The livestream is over from Apple. We are still waiting for the India prices of the new iPhones.

The iPhone 13 Pro's telephoto (77cm) with 3x optical zoom, ultra-wide camera and wide-angle camera all come with improvements on low-light. Apple is also adding macro photography on the iPhone 13 Pro. The ultra-wide lens can be used to zoom in and magnify the object. All three cameras also support Night mode.

Apple is adding major improvements to the camera on the iPhone 13, including low-light performance for both the mini and the regular version. More importantly, there's a new cinematic mode on the camera, which will keep the subject in focus, even if the subject moves. The focus stays on the subject, while the rest of the background is blurred out. So yes, this is Portrait mode for video, Apple says this will allow users to create content that has a cinematic feel. It shoots in Dolby Vision HDR, which is enabled by a special custom sensor.

The iPad mini costs $499 and is available for preorder today.

Well that's a surprise. Tim Cook is introducing a new iPad.
Apple's keynote livestream is now streaming. It starts with a little music video. And Tim Cook is now on stage. He's talking about Apple TV+ first. We are getting a look at the shows which will be premiering later in the year. The Foundation series is finally making its way. Season two of the Morning Show is also coming.
Apple says the livestream event is best experienced on an iPhone 7 or later, iPad (5th generation or later), or iPod touch (7th generation) using Safari on iOS 12 or later; or a Mac using Safari on macOS Mojave 10.14 or later. Streaming to the TV requires an Apple TV (2nd generation or later) or an AirPlay 2-capable device with the latest Apple TV software. The stream should also work on Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge.
The livestream video has begun on Apple's website. Just under five minutes to go before the keynote begins.
Apple's September event will start in another 25 minutes. This will likely be a two-hour or so keynote, so get ready to settle in. As already discussed, we're expecting the new iPhone series, Apple Watch Series 7 at today's event. The AirPods 3? We will have to wait and see if that turns out to be true.
A new tweet by casemaker Spigen has suggested that the new iPhone 13 series could feature larger rear camera modules, espcially the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
'The bigger the better, right?' the tweet says, showcasing a triple camera module which could belong to the upcoming iPhone 13 Pro Max. While this seems a very strong hint at either bigger camera modules or more protruding ones, it remains to be seen if the same is applicable to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini variants as well. Check out the tweet below.
Apple's India online store goes down ahead of launch, which is customary ahead of a big product announcement.
While the iPhone 12 mini might not have been a roaring success, Apple is expected to continue with the 'mini' lineup this time around as well. So yes, there will be four iPhone 13 models: the iPhone 13 mini, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro, and Pro Max. Of course, there's a lot of speculation that Apple could just ditch unlucky 13, and go straight with iPhone 14. After all, we never got iPhone 9, when Apple made the switch from iPhone X to iPhone XS.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has shared a tweet ahead of the launch. Check it out below. What do you it's indicating?
Well, according to research firm Canalys, it was the iPhone 12 with its dual cameras which had the highest share in the first half of 2021. The iPhone 12 had a 24 percent market share, and the Pro Max with its big 6.7-inch display had a 22 percent share, followed by the Pro at 21 percent.
But the iPhone mini had only 6 percent share in terms of shipments, which shows that the smaller screen mini has not really lived up to expectations. The trend is more towards bigger screens and the smaller screen of the mini likely had very few takers. Do keep in mind that other iPhones, aka the older options, had a higher shipment share of 27 percent. This trend is likely to continue with iPhone 13 as well, given prices for the older devices will drop and more users are likely to pick these up.

Rumours have suggested that the iPhone 13 series could be available in new colour variants across the four expected models. We could reportedly see the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini launch in Black, Blue, Pink, PRODUCT (Red), Purple and White. There's also a rumoured pink variant for the two devices. Meanwhile the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are expected to drop in Black, Bronze, Silver and Gold colours.
It looks like the iPhone 13 Pro series will get 120 Hz displays this time. It will be limited to the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max variants. Apple is expected to stick with the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch display sizes. The notch could be smaller, according to some leaks, but we will have to wait and see how Apple redesigns the front camera setup which includes Face ID and its various sensors.
Just a few hours left for Apple's big event which is taking place later tonight. One thing that tends to happen when Apple announces new products, is that the older iPhones see a price drop, while some products are phased out. We expect the iPhone XR to finally see the end of its lifecycle. But is this the right time to buy a new iPhone? Well, here's what we have to say on the subject.
AirPods 3 are also expected at the event. They are expected to have a design similar to the AirPods Pro, though some leaks claim they could come with silicone tips as well. According to MacRumors, which is quoting Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, new AirPods 3 are expected for sure at the event, but pricing will be key. Apple could price these higher than the current existing AirPods 2, and AirPods 2 will continue with the same price. Or Apple could cut the price for the older AirPods, and launch the new ones at the price of the AirPods 2. It does not look like the AirPods 3, will come with noise-cancellation, etc, which appears to be reserved for Pro variants.
A pink iPhone 13 is coming. Rumors of a pink iPhone 13 have been circulating for a while now. Some refer to it as a "Rose Pink." We don't know yet but we will have a better idea when Apple announces the iPhone 13 later tonight. Just imagine the iPhone in pink.
Last year, Apple introduced the Apple Watch SE, which was the more affordable option, though it didn't come with blood oxygen monitoring. Will there be an Apple Watch SE 2? So far leaks have not indicated anything on this front and there's a chance Apple could skip it for this year. An upgrade to the SE might make more sense in 2022. But then again, Apple just surprise users when it comes to this particular announcement.
While there's no major design change expected on the iPhone front, Apple Watch Series 7 will get a flatter design, more like the iPhone and iPad. According to Bloomberg, this will also mean a bigger display around 1.9-inches for the 45mm variant, while the 41mm variant will be the second option. Apple Watch Series 6 had 40mm and 44mm options, and the company is expected to increase the size with the new versions. But no new health sensors are expected on the Apple Watch Series 7.
The 'notch' on the iPhone, introduced with the iPhone X remains one of the more controversial aspects of the iPhone design. While other smartphone makers have implemented dot front cameras and gotten rid of the notch, Apple has continued to follow its own path as always. And there's a reason that notch exists. There's a whole array of sensors on the front of the iPhone, in order to support Face ID.
But leaks have indicated that this time the iPhone 13's notch could be considerably smaller in size. Will Apple actually implement this design change or continue with the big notch on the front? We'll have to wait and see at tonight's event.
The new iPhone series typically has a very high premium in India. Last year, the iPhone 12 Pro started at a whopping Rs 1,19,900 and going up to Rs 1,29,900 for the Pro Max. The iPhone 12 started at 79,900 last year, while the 12 mini was the most 'affordable' at Rs 69,900. Given that component costs are going up, and there's a chip shortage plaguing all industries, it won't be surprising if the Apple products are costlier this time. What do you think will be the starting price for the iPhone 13, which will likely be the most preferred pick for many users.
Apple's event starts at 10.00 am, which is 10.30 pm IST. The event is being streamed on the company's official YouTube channel and the link for the same is shared above. You can also go to the following link: https://www.apple.com/in/apple-events/ and watch directly from Apple's website. It will work on Safari browser or Apple TV.
