Apple today announced the new iPad Pro powered by the M4 chipset. The tech giant’s fastest and most advanced tablet comes in two sizes – 11-inch and 13-inch. The new iPad Pro lineup also happens to be the company’s slimmest product to date, with the 11-inch iPad Pro just 5.1mm thick and the 13-inch iPad Pro being 5.3mm thick.
Apple says the new iPad Pro models are powered by the M4 chipset based on second generation 3nm process and packs 4 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores with next-generation ML accelerators. It also comes with a Neural Engine with a 16-core design that helps with AI tasks like isolating a subject from their background in a video. The 10-core CPU is complimented by a 10-core GPU which the company claims offers 4x more performance compared to the Apple M2.
Compared to M2, Apple says the M4 can deliver the same performance using just half the power. The new M4 chip also comes with Dynamic Caching and hardware-backed ray tracing, which is a first for the iPad.
The new iPad Pro models come with an in-house developed display technology termed “tandem OLED”, which it calls Ultra Retina XDR display. These screens have a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits for both SDR and HDR content and a peak brightness of 1,600 nits, making the tablets usable under direct sunlight. Apple says the new Tandem OLED technology “enables sub-millisecond” control over the colour and luminance with each pixel”, making photos and videos appear brighter than ever.
Apple also seems to have updated the camera system on the new iPad Pro, with the 12MP rear camera now capable of capturing HDR images and video and more details in low light. On the front, you get a TrueDepth 12MP ultrawide camera that enhances the video conferencing experience.
On the connectivity front, the iPad Pro features a USB-C connector that supports Thunderbolt 3 and USB 4 with speeds up to 40Gb/s. Using the Thunderbolt port, one can attach an external Pro Display XDR with up to 6K resolution. The cellular versions of the new iPad Pro also come with eSIM support.
The new iPad Pro is available in two colourways – silver and space black and is available in up to 2TB configurations. The 11-inch iPad Pro starts from Rs 99,900 whereas the 13-inch model can be purchased for as low as Rs 1,29,900. It is currently available for pre-order and will be available in stores from May 15 onwards.
