Riot Games launched Valorant for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X yesterday. The free-to-play 5v5 first-person tactical shooter, which was in beta for sometime in June is now available on consoles for those living in the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan and Brazil with Riot Games saying that it will have the same gameplay and characters as the PC version.
The company also said that the console version of Valorant won’t support crossplay to maintain “competitive integrity.” However, the console is getting cross-progression support, meaning the characters and skins you have unlocked on PC will carry over on consoles.
Another thing to note here is that both the PC and console versions of the game will get balance patches, new agents, map updates, and other things simultaneously. Riot also seems to have made the console version of Valorant controller friendly for hip-fire and introduced a new shooting mode called “Focus.”
“Focus is a new shooting mode that behaves essentially like hip-fire, but with reduced sensitivity. This way, players can use hip-fire whenever they need speed in moving their camera/aim, but utilize focus mode whenever they need precision. This also approximates the shooting mechanic to what console players are used to in shooters, all of this without losing the added value Valorant’s aim down sights provides,” said Arnar Gylfason, the production director of Valorant. While Riot Games plans to make the console version of Valorant available in other regions, it is still unclear when that will happen.
