Sony’s live event will start at 3pm Eastern time (12:30am India time)
Sony is having a PlayStation Meeting today that starts in a few hours, but what they will unveil is still shrouded in mystery. Sony’s event will start at 3pm Eastern time (12:30am India time). PlayStation website’s URL that will stream the event live is counting down till it starts. Offically Sony hasn’t announced the launch of anything at the event, but if rumours are to be believed – its going to be the slimmer version of the PlayStation 4 (PS4).
Sony has been preparing the PS4 for a mid-life upgrade, and will unveil a new design – a slimmer version of the first generation PS4. The new console will however feature more than a change in looks. Speculations suggest that there might be another console in development – PS4 ‘Neo’. The PS4 Neo is rumoured to be capable of upscaling games to 4K quality. Today might see the unveiling of the PS4 Neo, which could potentially be Sony’s answer to Xbox ‘Scorpion’.
Sony’s announcement of the PS4 slim coincided with Microsoft’s launching on the slimmer Xbox One S console. Xbox One S not only saw the size of the console reduced by 40 per cent, but also the inclusion of features like 4K video support, and a 2TB variant. Games on the new Xbox console are not scaled up to 4K quality.
Leakers have already got hands of the new PS4 and have reviewed the console. One such review by Polygon, said that the new console does not support 4K support, as previously remoted. There is no upscaling of the game according to the review, with most changes being with the asthetics.
Another thing that can be showcased by Sony tonight is the PlayStation VR. The VR headset was codenamed Project Morpheus and is designed to be a gaming head mounted display that will work with the PlayStation 4. The headset featuers a 5.7 inch OLED panel, and will be able to process 3D audio effect. The PlayStation camera will be able to track 360 degree head movement with of the VR headset.
The PlayStation VR will be launched on October 13. The VR headset can be pre-ordered right now for 350 Pounds (approx Rs 31,000). The launch date or the price for the PlayStation VR has not been revealed for India. Sony’s VR headset will launch with eight demo discs – Wayward Sky, Headmaster, Eve: Valkyrie, Battlezone, Tumble VR, PlayStation VR World’s, Rigs Mechanised Combat League, an Driveclub VR.
