Sony just made its PlayStation 5 (PS5) gaming console even better with a software update, introducing several new features. These include Dolby Atmos audio support, the ability to mute the boot-up beep, and an option to pair a secondary controller with a single account.
The latest software release for the PlayStation 5 also enables the console to support up to 8 TB of storage using a compatible M.2 NVMe SSD. With the software update, users can now stream their games from the PS5/PS4 to smart TVs running on Android TV OS 12, as it adds PS Remote Play app support for Google’s Chromecast with Google TV (4K).
The PS5 already comes with 1 TB of storage, and with the latest software support, users can add 8 TB of storage. This will help users store all their games natively on the console. Additionally, this makes the PS5 one of the first mainstream consoles to officially support this amount of internal storage, which was previously limited to 4 TB.
The introduction of Dolby Atmos also allows users to switch between linear, DTS, Dolby Audio, and Atmos, depending on the user’s requirements. Dolby Atmos on the PS5 also implements Sony’s in-house 3D audio technology (Tempest 3D AudioTech), which works with compatible soundbars, televisions, and home theatre systems.
The update also adds another nifty feature that allows users to configure an additional controller on the same account for assistance. This feature will help two people play a single-player game, either to assist the other player or to enjoy a game collaboratively with children.
The update also introduces subtle UI improvements. Now, users can invite a player into a closed party without adding them to the group, and the invitee will receive a preview image of the shared screen. Additionally, users can react to messages using emojis and can search for games within the library.
