Sony was once known for its handheld gaming consoles, such as the portable PlayStation (PSP). PS Vita, launched in 2011, was Sony’s last handheld controller. However, the segment is currently dominated by Nintendo.

It seems like Sony is on its way to make a comeback. According to the latest report by Tom Henderson from Insider Gaming, the company seems to be working on a new handheld gaming console code-named “Q Lite.”

Unlike the previous iterations, the upcoming variant won’t be a standalone device. Instead, it will be a Remote Play-capable device, allowing users to stream games to the handheld via their PS5 gaming console.

PS Remote Play is a new feature that Sony has been pushing recently, which allows users to play PlayStation games on devices like laptops, tablets, and even smartphones. However, to do so, they need a constant high-speed internet connection. Currently, this technology allows users to stream games at up to 1080p resolution at 60fps.

At present, there is no additional information on either the specifications or the capabilities of the upcoming Sony handheld. However, the report does indicate that the device could launch by the end of 2024, possibly along with the more powerful PS5 Pro.

If can’t wait until then, you can also convert your iPhone into a PS5 handheld with the help of the Backbone One Mobile Gaming Controller for iPhone, which is currently available on Amazon for Rs 9,980, where, you will most likely to experience a better display and better audio when compared to the upcoming Sony handheld gaming device.
