Nintendo is expected to announce its next handheld gaming console – the Switch 2 in the next few hours. If you have been following news about the much-anticipated console, there’s very little that would come as a surprise. We already know that the Switch 2, or whatever Nintendo decides to name it, will be able to run most if not all games available on Switch and that it will have a much more powerful chipset compared to the now seven-year-old handheld.

Bigger screen and Joy-Con controllers

The biggest change we will see with the Switch 2 may be  how the Joy-Con controllers connect to the console’s body. Compared to the current implementation, where the controllers slot into the body using a rail system, the upcoming console is said to feature electromagnetic connectors, which should make it easier to attach them.

As indicated by Genki’s recent 3D model, the Switch 2 may be bigger in size than the current model, and as a result, the size of the Joy-Con is expected to increase as well.

OLED screen and NVIDIA chipset

According to previously leaked dummy models of the Switch 2, the handheld is expected to sport an OLED screen. On the hardware side of things, the Switch 2 is speculated to pack an NVIDIA Ampere GPU, which might be the NVIDIA Tegra T239 chip. If true, this means that Switch 2 will be on par with the PlayStation 4 or the PlayStation 4 Pro. Also, Nintendo might pack in up to 12GB of RAM and come with an upscaling method similar to NVIDIA’s DLSS technology.

Expected price and launch date

In the last few months, several leaks and rumours have hinted that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be priced somewhere around $300. Earlier this year, a Japanese industry analyst claimed that the Switch 2 will cost $400 with some games hitting the $70 mark.

Nintendo is expected to unveil the Switch 2 sometime later in the day, but tipsters say that the announcement will solely focus on the console and that there will be no news about upcoming games.

The Switch 2 is expected to launch sometime in March, which is in line with Nintendo’s own announcement and reports from several prominent tipster who have accurately predicted Nintendo launches in the last few years.
