MSI on Thursday teased its first handheld gaming console with the company’s signature Dragon-themed design. It will be unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show 2024, which will commence on January 9.
While the video shared by MSI does not reveal any details about the handheld device, a picture shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a user who goes by the name ‘wxnod’ gives us some insights on what it will look like.
Also, a reply by Intel Gaming suggests that MSI’s upcoming handheld gaming console might be powered by an Intel Meteor Lake CPU, specifically the Core Ultra series. To give you a quick recap, existing handheld gaming consoles like the Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally are powered by AMD’s offerings, and it is likely that MSI might head down the same route.
While there are no other details about MSI’s handheld gaming console, the image shared on X shows that it will have a design similar to the Asus ROG Ally and Steam Deck OLED with the company’s Dragon logo with the ‘True Gaming’ emblem and several vents on the back. We can also see two RGB-lit joysticks on either side of the handheld.
Similar to the Lenovo Legion Go and Asus ROG Ally, MSI’s gaming handheld might run on Windows 11, which Microsoft has been working on to work on portable devices in the last few months. But like Lenovo and Asus, the company might have to modify Windows 11 to smoothly run on the handheld. Also, it is still unclear how MSI plans to differentiate its upcoming handheld gaming console from the Steam Deck, Legion Go and ROG Ally, so we will have to wait a few more days before seeing what MSI has in store for gamers.
