After years of anticipation and rumours, Rockstar Games has finally confirmed that a new Grand Theft Auto game is on the horizon. In an announcement posted to their X social media platform earlier today, the video game developer revealed that the first trailer for the next numbered entry in the Grand Theft Auto series will be released in early December.

While no concrete details about the new game, presumed to be called Grand Theft Auto VI, were revealed, the trailer announcement nevertheless marks a major milestone for GTA fans who have been eagerly awaiting news of a new instalment.

The Grand Theft Auto franchise, renowned for its open-world gameplay, gritty crime narratives, and satirical themes, has been one of gaming’s most popular and highest-grossing series for over two decades. However, the last new numeric entry, Grand Theft Auto V, was released all the way back in 2013.

While details remain scarce, previous leaks and rumours have indicated that GTA VI may finally feature the series’ first female protagonist, as well as a fictionalised version of Miami as its primary setting.

Of course, the development and release of GTA VI has not been without its challenges. Last year, early test footage of the game leaked online following a cyber attack, forcing Rockstar to publicly confirm it was in development.
