Yes, we have all been talking a lot about smartwatches. However, one aspect of smartwatches that the companies like to talk less about is their battery life. The much anticipated Apple Watch for instance has just 18 hours of juice, while the very popular, but less smart Pebble offers close to a week.

However, Vector hopes to change this discussion. Launched in Switzerland a week back, Vector wants to call itself the “next generation smartwatch”. “Vector looks like a watch. It is focused on ‘What Truly Matters’, the convenience of 30 days battery life between re-charges. It offers a broad appeal as it is compatible with the three platforms, iOS, Android and Windows,” says CEO Joe Santana who once held the same role in Timex.

But how will Vector remain relevant in the times of the Apple Watch? “Apple is a great company to have in this space as they have helped put the Smartwatch category on the map. We feel we have developed a very different product for those that want something that looks like a traditional watch and offers functionality to provide less distraction and interaction,” Santana adds, underlining that the Apple Watch is a very different product to what Vector is offering.

Vector will look and feel like a premium watch. It will offer 30 day of battery life on a full charge, compatibility with iOS, Android & Windows platforms, a notification system which allow users to acknowledge messages with the flick of a wrist and built-in contextual awareness that helps the device to learn user behaviour.

Final price and availability will be announced only later in the summer. However, Santana seems to be looking at India as a strategic market. “We plan to develop an ecommerce and retail strategy to offer our watches to customers all over India,” he says.
