Asus has announces a new candybar-sized PC-on-stick called Chromebit, yes it runs Chrome OS for $85. It is a plug and play device that connects via HDMI port and users can connect an external keyboard and mouse.
The Chromebit runs Google’s Chrome OS, an OS designed to compliment the web. Google’s Chrome OS was designed as a Windows alternative for anybody looking at browsing web and web-based apps without burning a hole in their pocket.
With Intel and Microsoft pushing Windows based PC-on-stick, Chromebit adds more essence to accessible web platform. Under the hood, Chromebit is powered by a quad-core Rockchip processor with Mali-T624 taking care of graphics duty.

There is 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage and since its Google, users get free 100 gigabytes of free Google Drive storage.
The Chromebit has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, one HDMI out port and one USB 2.0 port. On paper, Chromebit is small and definitely underpowered but Asus claims it boots fast and can easily playback 1080p videos on a big screen.
While Chrome OS is all about web and is built around Google’s own ecosystem, it is worth pondering how well Chromebit can manage handful of Chrome tabs open. It would be too early to comment on its performance but it serves as a great entry point for anybody looking to turn an old idiotbox into a smart TV.
