iFixit’s Apple Mac Mini (2018) teardown is out and inside they found user-upgradable RAM and Soldered CPU. While the RAM in the previous-generation Mac Mini was soldered to the logic board, the all-new Mac Mimi has a user-upgradable RAM. However, the CPU, Apple T2 security chip and SSD are both soldered into the logic board, which simply means repair or replacement of the two is impossible.
The teardown further shows that Apple has increased the power supply from 85w to 150w in order to support the updated processor. iFixit has, however, given the all-new reparability a score of 6 out of 10. That means the mini computer isn’t 100 per cent repairable. For example, if something happens to the Mac Mini’s ports, the only option is to remove the logic board completely.

“Back in the day, a Pro Mac meant a computer you could upgrade, configure, and connect as you pleased. This new mini aligns so well with that ideal that we’re surprised it didn’t earn itself a “Pro” title—especially compared to the increasingly closed-off MacBook Pro line,” iFixit reported.
The good news is that it is easy to dismantle the Mac Mini. All you need to remove the plastic bottom cover and then unscrewing the antenna. The best part is that the logic board requires no tools. A 6 out of 10 repairability score is still respectable when compared to other Apple devices. The new MacBook Air has received a repairability score of 3 out of 10, which makes it hard to self-repair on your own.
