OpenAI is reportedly doubling down on the launch of several ‘AI agent’ products as a key driver of revenue growth.
The AI startup behind ChatGPT is looking to charge up to $20,000 a month for specialised AI ‘agents’ that are designed to execute specific tasks related to software engineering and research, according to a report by The Information.
As per the report, OpenAI plans to launch a “high-income knowledge worker” agent, which will cost $2,000 a month to access. An upcoming software developer agent is said to cost $10,000 a month.
The company’s most expensive agent that is built to carry out “PhD-level research” will reportedly be priced at $20,000 per month.
While it is unclear when OpenAI is expected to launch these AI agent-based tools, The Information reported that its investor, Softbank, has committed to spending $3 billion on OpenAI’s agent products this year alone.
In February this year, OpenAI launched a new AI tool called Deep Research that is capable of gathering information from across the internet and synthesising it to create a comprehensive report at the level of a research analyst.
The company’s GPT-4.5 model with an enhanced ability to recognise patterns and generate creative insights without reasoning, also made its debut last week.
